Important recognition for Vircell's international achievements
Last Tuesday January 25th, our Managing Director Joaquin Mendoza was presented the 2010 ALAS Award to the Internationalization of Andalusian Companies in the category of Export Company by the HRH Prince Felipe de Borbón.
Since the announcement of the Awards at the beginning of September 2010 more than 130 candidacies were received. The provincial juries of ALAS Awards chose 22 finalists, among whom they chose the winner for each of the five categories in competition unanimously.
The Awards, sponsored by the Ministry of Economy, Innovation and Science, are organized by Extenda, Trade Promotion Agency of Andalusia. Extenda, through its 21 offices in 19 countries worldwide, provides the Andalusian companies with customised advising, promotional activities, training and consulting services to increase its business opportunities in foreign markets.
ALAS Awards are aimed at the social and institutional recognition of those Andalusian companies having excelled in any aspect related to international trade and foreign investment. Likewise, these Awards make it possible to know about the work carried out in support of the internationalisation of the Andalusian economy. Among those present at the ceremony were the President of the Andalusian Government (Junta de Andalucía), José Antonio Griñán, the Secretary of State for Foreign Trade, Alfredo Bonet, the Minister of Economy, Innovation and Science, Antonio Avila, the mayor of Punta Umbria, Gonzalo Rodriguez, as well as the president of the Andalusian Council of Chambers of Commerce and Vice President of the CEA (Confederation of Businessmen of Andalusia), Antonio Ponce.
The Export Company category recognizes Vircell’s strong track record in international sales and the consolidation of its international positioning. Our company, founded in 1991, focuses on the production of diagnostic kits for infectious diseases through various techniques, from the traditional cell culture to the most innovative developments in molecular biology. Since 2003 our international turnover has surpassed our national turnover, thus 64% of our revenue comes from abroad currently. Our diagnostic kits are present in leading laboratories from more than 60 countries worldwide.
Vircell, with an annual compound growth rate (CAGR) of 17% for the period 2000-2010, devotes about 15% of its total turnover to R&D. Among their immediate projects are the construction of new facilities at the Health Science Technological Park in Granada, the entry in two new diagnostic technological platforms and the reinforcement of its strategic alliances in Germany, Japan, BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and USA.
