CANDIDA ALBICANS IFA IgG now is named as INVASIVE CANDIDIASIS (CAGTA) IFA IgG

A more appropriate name due to the intended use and features of the product

We are pleased to announce that our product CANDIDA ALBICANS IFA IgG (ref. PCAALG) is now called INVASIVE CANDIDIASIS (CAGTA) IFA IgG. This new name, effective from lot number 12CA303, is a more appropriate one due to the intended use of the product and its features.

As it is indicated in the instructions for use, neither the kit components nor the performance of the product are affected.

Invasive candidiasis is a disease of fungal etiology with an increasing incidence, especially in immunosuppressed patients, long-stay hospitalized and catheterized patients, as well as those subjected to extensive surgery or receiving broad spectrum antibiotic therapy. The diagnosis of invasive candidiasis is especially difficult due to the absence of pathognomonic symptoms specific of the disease and the low recovery of the microorganism in culture. The present commercial diagnostic techniques show a low specificity and sensitivity, being some of them too difficult to be carried out in a Clinical Microbiology laboratory.

INVASIVE CANDIDIASIS (CAGTA) IFA IgG is the perfect solution for the detection of specific antibodies against antigens located on the cell wall surface of the micelium of Candida albicans. These antibodies are normally present in sera from patients with invasive candidiasis caused by C. albicans and other species of this genus.

This test, widely recognized in the scientific literature as CAGTA (Candida albicans Germ Tube-specific Antibodies), is performed by indirect immunofluorescence after removal of other anti-candida antibodies usually found in most human sera, thus avoiding possible false positive results.

We are confident that the new name of INVASIVE CANDIDIASIS (CAGTA) IFA IgG will facilitate the promotion and distribution of this product. Once again, we appreciate the cooperation of our distribution network in informing their existing customers about this product name change and reaching new potential customers.
